UTAH: Second-team all-MWC defensive back a year ago will play both safety and linebacker this fall ... plans have him starting at strong safety in the nickel formation and rover linebacker in the 4-3 ... will also see time at free safety ... originally joined Utah as a walk-on (he has since earned a scholarship) ... Athlon Sports picked him for its preseason all-MWC first team.
2005-Second-team all-MWC defensive back started all 12 games at free safety ... 5 interceptions was tied for league lead ... 0.42 interceptions per game ranked second in the MWC and 16th in the nation ... 8 passes defended (5 picks, 3 pass breakups) was second on the team ... 89 total tackles ranked second on the team and eighth in the MWC ... also record 4.0 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks ... earned MWC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice: against Air Force (12 tackles, 1 interception, 0.5 tackles for loss) and BYU (career-high 13 tackles, forced fumble, fumble recovery) ... against BYU, he set up a critical score by forcing a fumble, recovering the ball and returning it 30 yards to the BYU 7-yard line ... 9 tackles and an interception against UNLV ... 8 stops and an interception vs. Arizona ... 7 tackles at TCU and 6 vs. New Mexico.
