SALT LAKE CITY-Mona Stevens has resigned after nine years as the head softball coach at Utah to pursue other opportunities. Stevens compiled a 281-239-1 (.540) record at the U. from 1997-2005. An interim coach will be appointed before the students return to class from their semester break.
Stevens and Utah Athletics Director Dr. Chris Hill issued a joint statement regarding the resignation.
"I am grateful for my affiliation with the University of Utah softball program," said Stevens. "The coaches, staff and players are some of the best in the country. I have been a Ute in one form or another for over 17 years and I'm very proud of that. I am very excited about the next adventure in my life and I will take with me the pride and determination I have gained from my experience at Utah."
"Mona has tendered her resignation and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors," said Hill. "After the season is over, we will conduct a national search to find a new coach. I understand that this is a difficult situation for our student-athletes on the team, but we will do our best to make the transition as smooth as possible."
