SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah will host the NCAA North Central Region Championship on Saturday, April 9 at 6 p.m. (MDT) in the Huntsman Center. Utah, which finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation, is the top seed in the North Central regional. The rest of the field, in order of seed, follows: Oregon State, Brigham Young, Minnesota, Southern Utah, Iowa.
Tickets to the regional meet may be purchased by calling the ticket office at 801-581-UTIX, online at www.UtahUtes.com or at the Rice-Eccles Stadium box office.
Along with Utah, four other teams in the Salt Lake regional are ranked in the top 25. Oregon State is No. 12, BYU No. 13, Minnesota No. 20 and Southern Utah No. 22. Two teams--Utah and Iowa--qualified for the 2004 NCAA Championships.
Utah hopes to continue its record NCAA Championships qualifying streak: It is the only program in the nation to qualify for all 23 NCAA Championships and for the last 29 national championships including the AIAW years.
Utah is one of six regional hosts. The others are: Washington (West), Nebraska (South Central), Alabama (Central), New Hampshire (Northeast) and Florida (Southeast). The top two finishers from each regional, regardless of score, will advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala., April 21-23.
