SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah softball team landed two of its players on the All-Mountain West Conference team while a third was honored with its annual sportsmanship award.
Landing on the all-conference team were junior first baseman Ivette Hernandez and freshman outfielder Diana Phillips. Senior catcher Bryanne Durrence won the 2005 sportsmanship award.
Hernandez hit .321 in conference play and fielded a team-best .993. Phillips was among the league leaders in hitting, batting a team-high .411 against conference foes. She also led the team with 23 hits and a .464 slugging percentage.
The No.4-seeded Utes play No. 5 New Mexico in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. First pitch at San Diego State University is set for Thursday, May 12, at 11:30 a.m. (PDT).
