Utes Mourn The Passing Of Former Teammate Thomas Herrion

Thomas Herrion, a much-loved offensive lineman at Utah from 2002-03, passed away following a preseason NFL game with the San Francisco 49ers, Saturday. Herrion played in 22 games during his two-year career at Utah, serving as a team captain and a member of the Utah Football Leadership Committee as a senior in 2003.
The University of Utah plans to remember Herrion with a moment of silence before the season-opening game against Arizona on Sept. 2 in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Utes will also add a small black No. 76, Herron's number at Utah, to their helmets. A contingent from the school, including former players, will attend his funeral in Texas.
The 6-3, 319-pound Ft. Worth, Texas, native started all 12 games at left guard for Utah's 2003 Mountain West Conference and Liberty Bowl champion team. He recorded 24 knockdowns that year and was named to the honorable mention all-MWC team.
A friendly, personable, outgoing jokester, Herrion was one of the most popular players on the team during his time at Utah. An avid and talented singer, he frequently led the team in song after games. He was also a fine musician who played the drums in his church band and enjoyed jazz, hop hop and blues music.
The son of J.C. and Janice Herrion, Thomas was born Dec. 15, 1981. He attended Polytechnic HS (Texas) and Kilgore Junior College before signing with the Utes in February of 2002.
