FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Utah softball team (13-8) went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the country but came up short against Fresno State, falling to the Bulldogs in the seventh inning, 1-0.
The No. 24-ranked Bulldogs tallied the one-run, shutout win when Ashley White collected the game-winning hit with a one-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh at the Judi Garman Classic.
The two teams combined to belt out nine hits, four in all for the Utes. Diana Phillips, Ivette Hernandez, Sharee Fonoti and Meghan Crouse all bagged hits for the Utes.
Meghan Dyer got the start in the circle and took the loss. She falls to 7-2 for the year. Against the Bulldogs, she struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits. The lone run was an earned run.
