FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Utah softball team (15-9 overall) advanced to the championship game of the consolation bracket at the Judi Garman Classic with a thrilling one-run, extra-innings win over Michigan this morning.
The Utes raced out to a 2-0 lead over the Wolverines (13-9) with a pair of scores in the second inning. But, they saw their Big Ten rivals tie it with runs in the third and sixth innings, respectively. Utah bagged the 3-2 win with a run in the eighth.
Devina Quintero led the Utes in collecting two of the team's five hits on the morning. She finished the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ivette Hernandez, Kelly Matthews and Meghan Crouse all tallied single hits for Utah.
Karina Cannon tallies the win in the circle. She tossed all eight innings in striking out three and walking three. Cannon scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs.
A pair of Wolverine batters tagged Cannon for two hits each. They were led by Rebekah Milian who went 2-for-2 at the plate. Michigan's Jennie Ritter is saddled with loss. She only pitched the game's final two innings and struck out four Ute batters to only one walk.
