Women's Tennis- Utah Invitational Day One Results

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team completed the first day of the Utah Invitational on Friday with the Utes dominating the competition. The Quarterfinals in both the Flight A and Flight B brackets are filled with the Utes competing against eachother. In the doubles competition, all five doubles teams made it into the Semifinals.

In the Flight A bracket, Elizabeth Ferris received a bye in the Round of 16 and then went on to defeat E. Monson from Utah State 6-3, 6-3. Advancing into the Quarterfinals, Ferris will face fellow teammate Cheyenne Reveche whom advanced after her victory over Andrea Maughan from Utah 6-4, 6-4.

After a 6-2, 6-0 win in the Round of 16 over K. Adamson of Weber State, Leigh Walsh competed against C. Anderson of Utah State in the Semifinals for a 6-4, 7-5 win. The sophomore will face junior Emily Kwok in the Quarterfinals after her win over D. Nelson 6-4, 6-4.

In the Flight B competition, Karine Bourdages received a bye in the Round of 16. Proceeding into the Semifinals, the Ute faced B. Strickland from Utah State where she won 6-0, 6-1. In the Quarterfinals she will face teammate Jessica Carter. Jessica Carter advances into the Quarterfinals after her win over McCaye Badger of the Utes 6-3, 6-4.

Senior Cinthia Saucedo will compete in the Quarterfinals of the Flight B bracket against senior Jessica Watts. Saucedo competed against M. Mullen of Weber State in the Round of 16 for a 6-2, 6-1 win. In the Semifinals, Saucedo and teammate Tamarin Espinoza battled 6-0, 6-1 win in Saucedo's favor.

Watts won her match against B. Watts of Utah State 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 16. Advancing into the Semifinals, she faced E. Beneke of Weber State. Watts battled for a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the Wild Cat.

In the doubles competition, Ferris and Walsh will compete against schapper and Beneke of Weber State in the Semifinals. Saucedo and Maughan will compete against teammates Kwok and Reveche. Badger and Watts will compete against Utah's Bourdages and Carter.

The singles competition of the tournament will resume on Saturday beginning at 3:30 p.m. MT. The doubles competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. MT.
