> Utah (6-3, 3-2 MWC) has a bye this week, then plays host to Wyoming (5-3, 2-2 MWC) on Saturday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on CSTV. > Utah has won it last five games, beating Utah State, Louisville, San Diego State, TCU and Colorado State on consecutive weeks.
> Utah became eligible for a bowl with its 27-3 victory over CSU on Oct. 27. The MWC bowl games (in order of selection) are: Pioneer Purevision Las Vegas Bowl (Dec. 22), San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (Dec. 20), Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl (Dec. 31), New Mexico Bowl (Dec. 22).
> Utah has won its last six bowl games - dating back to 1999 - which ranks as the second-longest postseason win streak in the nation.
> Utah is 6-0 when Darrell Mack rushes for 100 yards. He is currently tied for the school record for consecutive 100-yard games with five.
> Quarterback Brian Johnson is 5-0 since returning to the starting lineup from an injury.
> The Utah-Wyoming game on Nov. 10 marks the 80th anniversary of their football rivalry. Utah, which leads the series 47-31-1, has played Wyoming more than any school other than Utah State (107 games) and Brigham Young (88 games).
LAST WEEK
Utah rushed for a season-high 322 yards and held Colorado State to a field goal in a 27-3 victory in Ft. Collins on Oct. 27. Utah built its case early, taking a 20-3 lead into the locker room. The Utes didn't score again until the fourth quarter, but it didn't matter, since Colorado State was rendered helpless by a vicious pass rush that resulted in seven sacks. The Rams converted on 2-of-12 third down attempts and mustered just 275 total yards of offense, including 101 in a scoreless second half. Steve Tate led the Utes with 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. On offense, Utah got 100-yard rushing games from both Darrell Mack (151) and Ray Stowers (123). Brian Johnson passed for two touchdowns, Stowers scored on a fourth-quarter run and Louie Sakoda booted two field goals.
KYLE STYLE
Kyle Whittingham is 21-13 in his third year as Utah's head coach and a perfect 2-0 in bowl games. This is his 14th season on the Ute staff: He spent 11 years as an assistant coach (defensive line coach in 2004 and defensive coordinator from 1995-2004), before accepting the head job on Dec. 8, 2004. A month after his appointment, he served as the co-head coach in Utah's 35-7 Fiesta Bowl victory over Pittsburgh - capping a 12-0 season. Whittingham's first game as the head coach was on Sept. 2, 2005 -a 27-24 win over Arizona.
INSIDE THE HUDDLE
Starting offensive tackle Zane Beadles has Wyoming ties. Both of his parents are Wyoming graduates and his mother Jamie played basketball there. Stepfather Joe Legerski is in his fifth year as Wyoming's head women's basketball coach ... In 2005, the last time Utah played Wyoming in Salt Lake City, Brian Johnson led the Utes to a 43-13 win by passing for 384 yards and four touchdowns. He was also Utah's leading rusher with 67 yards and a score. It was Johnson's last complete game for over a year, as he suffered a knee injury the next week against New Mexico and redshirted in 2006 ... Eight true freshmen have played for the Utes this season: Nai Fotu, Dallin Rogers, Lei Talamaivao, Eddie Wide, Jereme Brooks, Jamel King, Justin Taplin-Ross and Corbin Louks.
