SALT LAKE CITY--University of Utah junior Louie Sakoda made two more major All-America teams today, receiving second-team honors as punter by SportsIllustrated.com and as a place-kicker by Phil Steele Publications.
Sakoda has made five All-America teams to date, including first-team recognition as a punter by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and CBSSports.com, and as a kicker by Rivals.com.
Sakoda is the only first-team All-America punter in school history. A two-time Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, he was voted the league's first-team punter and second-team kicker this season. He ranked eight in the country in punting, averaging 44.8 yards per punt. Sakoda set a school-record with 19 field goals, including 10 from beyond 40 yards.
Sakoda is the fifth Ute first-team All-American since 2002, joining current NFL players Jordan Gross 2002), Chris Kemoeatu (2004), Alex Smith (2004) and Eric Weddle (2005). Gross and Weddle were both Consensus All-Americans.
The SportsIllustrated.com and Phil Steele All-America teams are selected by writers and staff.
