Utah Ski Team Races Strong in SuperTour

SALT LAKE CITY - With the second weekend of racing completed, the Utah ski team is in second place in the overall Super Tour standings.
The SuperTour is the premier Nordic ski racing circuit in North America. Skiers use these races to increase their points, which allows them to get better start positions in future competitions, plus help them to qualify for International competitions.
This past weekend, five athletes traveled to Bozeman, Mont., for the weekend's races and were able to compete on the same courses that will host the 2008 NCAA Championships in March. The biggest highlight of the weekend was Snorri Einarsson and Even Sletten finishing one-two in the men's sprint race.
"It was great to watch Snorri and Even go one-two in the sprint," said assistant coach Kristina Casey. "They skied really great through all the heats. Even was leading out of every start with a fast double pole. For Snorri to win the final was great because he was happy to even be in the final (the top six are guaranteed) so for him to win was awesome, and now he knows he can win in a sprint and a distance race.
"Overall everyone skied well this weekend. They felt better then they did at the West Yellowstone SuperTour two weeks ago and they are getting their race strategies dialed in. In the sprint, Ian Havlick qualified for the heats and skied a very strong quarter against one of the fastest heats. Ben Fick looked strong winning the Junior Boys final. He would have been right in there in the heats. Sarah MacCarthy qualified in 9th and skied through her quarter with ease. She fought hard in her semifinal and was strong in the women's `B' final. We are looking good and as we gear things up for US Nationals and the NCAA season we will only be coming on faster."
In the overall individual rankings, Sletten sits in second place, while Einarsson is in third. MacCarthy is 12th for women.
