The Utah women's tennis team will honor the victims of a tragic car accident during its tennis match with Weber State on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The match starts at 3 p.m. in the Eccles Tennis Center. Michelle Williams, the sister-in-law of Utah head coach Megan Dorny, was an avid supporter of the Utah women's tennis team, and she and her children attended most of the home matches. The women's tennis team will be collecting donations and handing out ribbons of remembrance at the match.
This Week
The University of Utah women's tennis team will host Weber State on Wednesday before hitting the road on Friday and Saturday to face Kansas State and the University of Kansas.
The Opposition
Weber State is currently 0-2 for the season. The Wildcats fell to New Mexico State 6-1 on Jan. 27, followed by a loss to No. 40 UNLV from the Mountain West Conference 7-0 on Jan. 28. They will face the Utes on Wednesday at Eccles Tennis Center. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. MT.
No. 61 Kansas State is 1-1 for the season. After sweeping Drake University 7-0 on Jan. 27, the Wildcats fell to No. 57 Wichita Sate University 6-1 on Feb. 3. The Utes will face Kansas State on Friday in Manhattan, Kan. at 1:00 p.m. CT.
Ending this week's competition, the Utes will face the University of Kansas. The Jayhawks are 1-6 for the season. Their recent matches include losses to No. 18 Wake Forest University 6-1 on Feb. 4, and No. 55 Arkansas, Fayetteville 5-2 on Feb. 11. The Utes and Jayhawks will compete on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. CT in Lawrence, Kan.
Ute Notes
The University of Utah women's tennis team is currently 3-2 for the season. The Utes were last seen playing against Montana State-Billings and No. 64 Boise State. The Utes swept MSU-Billings 7-0 on Feb. 2, but had a tough loss the following night against Boise State where they fell 6-1 to the Broncos.Leading the Utes in the singles line-up is No. 67 nationally ranked Elizabeth Ferris.
