Evanston, Ill. - The University of Utah women's tennis team completed day one of the Northwestern Invitational on Friday with three wins in singles play. Elizabeth Ferris, Evgenia Kryuchkova, and Dee-Dee Nelson all pulled out victories.
Ferris competed in the Flight A competition against Kerstin Pahl (98) from Western Michigan University. The Ute posted a straigh 6-4, 6-4 win over the Bronco.
Kryuchkova faced veteran Priyanka Parekh in the Flight B bracket. Playing straight sets, the Ute took the victory at 6-2, 6-2. Nelson finished out the wins on Friday for Utah. The Ute slammed a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Yuka Kobayashi from Western Michigan.
In doubles play, the Utes were unable to edge out a single win.
