Evanston, Ill. - The University of Utah women's tennis team had a tough final day at the Northwestern Invitational on Sunday. Northwestern dominated their home courts during the tournament posting wins in every singles match against the Utes. At the completion of the invitational, Elizabeth Ferris and Evgenia Kryuchkova had earned eight points, while Andrea Maughan had earned four.
"Today we were a little banged up. But we lost to a very good team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "We'll be using the next few days to get healthy and prepare ourselves for Arkansas next week."
The invitational was scored according to how each player won their match. Winners received three points for straight-set wins, two points for a win in three sets, and the loser of a three-set match earned one point.
Although not having a successful day on the court on Sunday, Ferris was able to earn eight points from the tournament, while Maughan was able to tally four points. Kryuchkova earned eight points as well, but was unable to play on Sunday due to illness. Emily Kwok suffered an injury to her shoulder, disabling her during the last day of competition.
Leigh Walsh, Erin Monson, Karine Bourdages, and Dee-Dee Nelson each earned three points at the completion of the tournament.
