SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team is set to play the Arkansas Lady Backs on Sunday at Eccles Tennis Center. This will be the first dual match of the season under head coach Mat Iandolo. The Utes will face No. 53 ranked Arkansas at 9:00 a.m. MST.
The University of Utah women's tennis team was last seen in action at the ASU Invitational in November 2007. Elizabeth Ferris played into the round of 32 where she was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Jennifer Yen from Stanford. After entering into the consolation bracket, Ferris posted wins over Lindsey Howard from Michigan (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) and Kari Wig from Michigan (6-1, 6-2).
Aurelija Miseviciute, a junior, is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in singles and No. 45 in doubles with partner Maryori Franco. Miseviciute currently holds a 27-1 singles record and a 17-3 doubles. The Lady Back earned her ranking after posting wins over Ani Mijacika from Clemson in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. She stepped in to earn a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 victory in the finals.
Miseviciute last faced Elizabeth Ferris at the Central Regional Tournament in October 2007. The Lady Back defeated the Ute 6-2, 6-0.
Quote from head coach Mat Iandolo:
"Arkansas has a quality program and although they are only ranked No. 53 right now, they should be a top 15 program. This will be a good test for our team as we start our season. After Sunday's match we will have a good idea of where we stand and where we are going."
