SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team prepares for No. 45 Oregon, Cal Poly, and San Francisco this weekend. All three dual matches will be hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. Friday's match will begin at 3:00 p.m. against Oregon, on Saturday the Utes will take on Cal Poly at 1:00 p.m. Rounding out the weekend, Utah will face San Francisco on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
UTE NOTES:
The Utes are coming off of a hard loss to No. 53 Arkansas (6-1). The Utes battled hard, but were only able to follow through in one match. Elizabeth Ferris stepped up for a challenge, facing the No. 1 ranked opponent in the nation, Aurelija Miseviciute. The Ute played through three sets for a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 upset.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The Oregon Ducks will defend their home courts in their season opener against Utah on Friday. The women's squad was last seen in the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. hosted by UNLV on Jan. 11-13. Junior Carmen Seremeta defeated Wendy Pilecka of Arizona State 6-3, 7-6.
Cal Poly (2-2) is coming off of a two match losing streak against No. 18 Pepperdine (7-0) and No. 3 UCLA (5-2). In the last match against UCLA, No. 22 Steffi Wong and Brittany Blalock defeated No. 16 Riza Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack 8-5 in doubles play.
San Francisco will open up their season on Friday against Portland State before facing the Utes on Sunday. The team was last season in October at the ITA Regional Tournament in Palo Alto, Calif.
