Early in the ASU Invitational doubles competition, Ferris and Walsh teamed up to dominate Tanvi Dudhela and Kari Wig of Michigan with an 8-0 sweep.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
Northwestern University has several high level players on their squad this season. The ITA released their latest national rankings on Tuesday, giving five of Northwestern's players top 100 rankings; three of which are in the top 25. Maria Mosolava (Fr.) is ranked No. 2, Georgia Rule (Jr.) is ranked No. 9, and Samantha Murray (So.) is currently ranked No. 20 in the nation.
Western Michigan comes out of the Mid-American Conference. Leading the squad is junior Kerstin Paul. After posting a win over No. 68 Lauren Lui of Northwestern University (7-5, 6-4) in the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament, Paul earned a No. 98 national ranking from the ITA.
From the Big East Conference, DePaul is set to compete in the tournament. The squad was last seen in the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Tournament in Oct. 2007. Dunja Antunovic played into the round of 16 of the tournament, falling to Kali Krisik of Notre Dame 7-6(4), 6-4.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH Mat Iandolo:
"It's going to be great competition. Northwestern is one of the top programs in the country right now. Western Michigan and DePaul are good as well. We will be getting some good experience early on without the possibility of hurting our team record. Another plus, is it will be good for us to play at sea level since we don't get that opportunity a lot."
