SALT LAKE CITY - Andy Ludwig, Utah's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since 2005, has accepted a position at Kansas State. Ludwig's responsibilities will remain the same in his move to KSU.
Under Ludwig, Utah is ranked first in the Mountain West Conference and No. 15 in the nation in scoring, averaging 37.4 points a game. Quarterback Brian Johnson was named the 2008 MWC Offensive Player of the Year and to the all-conference first team. Ludwig is one of five finalists for the FootballScoop Offensive Coordinator of the Year award.
Said Ludwig of his new position, "I'm grateful for the opportunity given to me by Coach Whittingham and the University of Utah. It has been very satisfying working with the players and coaches in this program for four years. At this time, I feel the opportunity presented by Kansas State and Coach Bill Snyder is best for myself and my family. This move was provided to me by the success of this football program, which is a direct tribute to the players. I won't start my new position until Jan. 5, and until that time, my total focus is on preparation for the Sugar Bowl."
Whittingham, who does not plan to immediately hire a replacement for Ludwig, said, "We are grateful for the job Andy has done here at Utah. He was one of our first hires four years ago and he's been a big part of our success. Andy has been very dedicated to the program and will continue to serve as our offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach through the bowl game. We will begin evaluating potential replacements, but have no timetable for hiring a new coordinator. We want to take the time necessary to make sure we get the best person for our program."
