SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team (67) is set to compete against Boise State and Eastern Washington this weekend in Boise, Idaho. The Utes will face Boise State on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. MST and Eastern Washington on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. MST.
UTE NOTES:
The University of Utah women's tennis team is currently 3-1 in the season. The team has earned a No. 67 national ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), which released their latest rankings on Feb. 5, 2008.
The Utes earned their ranking after posting wins over Oregon (5-2), Cal Poly (4-3), and San Francisco (5-2). Oregon was previously ranked No. 58, and Cal Poly was previously ranked No. 68.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
Boise State is currrently ranked No. 42 in the nation and are 0-1 this early in the season. Their loss came from No. 58 University of Oregon. The Ducks defeated the Broncos 4-3. Leading the squad in the singles line up is Bianca Jochimsen. The Bronco has earned a No. 81 national ranking and has compiled a 4-4 singles record, and 9-2 doubles record so far this season. In doubles play, Polina Kokoulina and Pichitira Thongdach are currently ranked No. 40 in the nation.
Eastern Washington does not currently hold a national ranking by the ITA. They opened their season with two tough losses to their own in-state rivals. No. 47 Washington State and No. 49 Washington each defeated the team at 7-0.
