TEMPE, Ariz. - The Utah softball team continued at the Diamond Devil Invitational on Saturday, March 8, falling to San Diego, 8-4, and Pacific, 4-1.
Kara Foster's 3-for-3 effort at the plate, which included a three-run home run, led the Utes against San Diego
After San Diego scored two runs in both the first and third innings, Kristie Keller cut the lead to 4-1 with a home run over the left field fence. It was her first home run of the season.
Foster's home run in the bottom of the sixth inning also went over the left field fence, bringing the score to 8-4. Bonnie Muir and Andrea Hoffman, both who walked during the inning, also scored on the play.
Foster hit a double off the left field wall in her first at-bat, then slid headfirst into first base to beat out the throw in the fourth inning. She leads the Utes with seven home runs.
Starting pitcher Brittany Parker went four innings with four runs and two strikeouts. Ashley Smuda pitched two innings and Haili Squire threw the final inning.
Against Pacific, the Utes put the first run of the game on the board in the first inning. Diana Phillips led off the inning with a single and would score on a wild pitch.
The Tigers scored their four runs in the third inning, rallying with two outs after a Ute error with the bases loaded.
Smuda pitched a complete game, striking out five.
The Utes wrap up the Diamond Devil on Sunday, March 9, against UC Davis.
