SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team remains in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national ranking, but has dropped to No. 54 this week after a 4-0 loss to then No. 62 UNLV last weekend.
Last week, the Utes broke their losing streak of more than seven years to San Diego State. Utah's doubles teams took care of business against the Aztecs to sweep doubles play before moving into singles play. Elizabeth Ferris, Evgenia Kryuchkova, and Karine Bourdages all pulled out wins in singles to clench the 4-3 victory over SDSU.
Ferris also dropped in the rankings in singles. The Ute was previously ranked No. 43 by the ITA, but has dropped to No. 60 this week. Last week, the Ute defeated Holly Bagshaw of San Diego State with a swift 6-2, 6-1 win. During the team's match against UNLV, Ferris was unable to establish the same momentum as she took on No. 31 Elena Gantcheva for a 6-4, 6-4 loss. The Ute is now 25-9 in singles play.
Ferris and Emily Kwok were not listed on this week's doubles rankings.
