SALT LAKE CITY- The No. 43-ranked Utah women's tennis team (3-4) hosts Nevada (1-1) Sunday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m. MT, at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
"The University of Nevada is a very strong team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "We have had some very competitive matches over the years against them, including last year's long and hard-fought 4-3 match. We are looking forward to competing against them on our home courts this Sunday."
Last year's meeting between the two teams ended with a 4-3 Utah victory, clinched by current Ute senior Karine Bourdages, in a hard-fought three set match at the No. 6 spot. Junior Erin Monson contributed with a singles win at the No. 4 position, and clinched the doubles point with a victory at the No. 3 spot with Junior Andrea Maughan. Senior Leigh Walsh and sophomore Evgenia Kryuchkova, playing at the No. 2 position, also had a win in doubles. The other singles point was earned by former Ute Elizabeth Ferris, who also teamed up with former Ute Emily Kwok to win the first doubles match from the No. 1 spot.
Utah is looking to rebound from a 7-0 loss to fifth-ranked Notre Dame last Sunday. The Wolf Pack will play another match before taking on the Utes, first heading to Provo to face the BYU Cougars.
