SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah ski team has announced the hiring of Abi Holt as head Nordic coach.
Holt comes to Utah from Hollyburn Ski Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she spent a year as the first-ever head coach for the club. She coached Hollyburn's first four athletes to qualify for the National Championships and the first three athletes to be named to the B.C. Provincial Development Squad.
In addition to working with the Utah skiers this season, she will also be serving as a wax technician for the U.S. Ski Team.
"I am excited about Abi," Director of Skiing Eli Brown said. "We have been lucky with a string of good helpers with impressive resumes. Her work with the U.S. Ski Team is going to be a big advantage for us."
Prior to Hollyburn, Holt spent five years as the Assistant Nordic Program Director and Ski Coach at the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.
Holt has been coaching for nine years. She has coached six U.S. National Junior Champions and one National Champion. Her resume includes national and international coaching experiences. She coached three winters in Europe with the U.S. Ski Team at the J1 Scandinavian Championships, Scando Cup and Europa Cup. Holt has also spent time training athletes in Sweden and Norway.
"I think we have a great team and I am excited to work with collegiate athletes who are focused on their racing," Holt said. "There is a ton of great energy on this team and everyone is raring to go."
Holt was a three-time national champion and a 17-time Junior All-American for the Sun Valley Nordic team. She was on the U.S. National Junior Development Ski Team for five years. Holt spent four years racing at Dartmouth College, earning All-America honors for the Big Green in addition to being a two-time team captain.
Holt is from Sun Valley, Idaho.
