SALT LAKE CITY - Junior Eva Huckova won the women's giant slalom to lead all Utah skiers on the first day of the Utah Invitational, held at Park City Mountain Resort.
Huckova finished with a time of 1:56.15 for her fourth career victory.
Utah had three top-10 finishers in the men's giant slalom. Nick Cohee placed seventh in 1:57.01 followed by Thomas Zumbrunn (1:57.10) in eighth and Kyle Kung (1:57.20) in ninth.
The Utes are third in the team standings with 195 points, behind New Mexico (231) and Denver (212).
"We are psyched to start the year with an athlete on top. Eva pretty much owns that hill," Director of Skiing Eli Brown said. "We of course had a better team score in mind, but we were a bit thrown off today by the icy, rutted track in the afternoon. I can confidently say that we have one of the best alpine teams in the country."
Other strong finishers for the Utes were a 13th-place finish by Torjus Krogdahl and an 18th-place run by Sofia Smith.
A number of fans yelled `Go Utes' from the ski lift during the day, while several alumni were on hand to help with the race.
"It was great to share a bluebird Utah day with volunteers, alumni and supporters," Brown said.
