SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team (6-5, 0-0) looks to extend its four-match winning streak against 64th-ranked Fresno State (0-7, 0-0) Friday February 5.
"We are looking to continue the success we had over the weekend playing against highly ranked teams," said head coach Mat Iandolo.
The Utes went 3-0 at home this past weekend. Their home record is now 5-0 for the year and for the first time in the program's history. Two of the wins were 5-2 upsets over top-50 ranked teams.
Sophomore Lisa Johnson clinched the first upset over 50th-ranked Arizona on Saturday by defeating Natalia Toporowska in a three-set match at the No. 6 spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Paige Miles won the match point in the upset over 22nd-ranked DePaul, its first win over a top-22 ranked team since 1998.The Ute topped Sandra Zmak, 6-2, 7-6(7), at the No. 4 position.
Sophomore Anastasia Putilina rounded out the Utes' winning weekend by securing the match from the No. 1 spot when she downed Weber State's Keya Jenkins, 6-1, 6-2.
Fresno State is coming off two road losses to 33rd-ranked Texas, 7-0, and 31st-ranked Arizona State, 6-1.
The Utes' match against the Bulldogs will be held at the Eccles Tennis Center and is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. MT*. Admission is free.
