BOZEMAN, Mont. - Miles Havlick and Maria Grafnings both won their respective nordic races to lead the University of Utah skiing team to a second-place finish with a solid day of performances Sunday at the Bohart Ranch as part of the Montana State Invitational. The Utes totaled 912 points over the two-day event, following first-place Colorado by nine points.
Miles Havlick took first-place honors in the men's 20k classical race with a time of 58:37.4 and was followed by fourth-place Didrik Smith, who clocked a time of 1:00.10.2. Rolf Figi turned in a top-10 performance, placing ninth at 1:01.27.4, while Ian Havlick was 13th in a time of 1:02.27.1. Tom Smith followed immediately in 14th with a time of 1:02.52.4.
Grafnings paced the field in the women's 15k classical race with a time of 48:23.3 and was joined on the podium by Sarah MacCarthy, who placed third with a time of 51:02.5. Zoe Roy took sixth with a time of 51:12.6 as Marta Larsen rounded out Utah's top-10 presence with a 10th-place finish at 51:33.3. Rose Kemp finished 19th in 55:13.4 and Maddie Talkington placed 28th in 58:06.1.
In the slalom, Eva Huckova turned in a runner-up finish with a time of 1:35.94. Tii-Maria Romar posted a 10th-place finish with a time of 1:37.49 while Anna Kocken placed 12th at 1:37.88. Jamie DuPratt was 18th at 1:38.33.
Torjus Krogdahl turned in Utah's top performance in the men's race at 1:28.41 that was good for sixth place. Ryan Wilson was 11th in a time of 1:28.85 while Eian Sandvik took 16th in 1:29.45. Nick Cohee was 19th with a time of 1:29.63.
The nordic portion of the University of Utah Invitational will be held Friday and Saturday at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah.
