Touch `Em All Elly: Utah junior outfielder Katelyn Elliott (Spanish Fork, Utah) hit for a .625 average with five hits in eight at-bats for three RBI in a three-game series last weekend at No. 2 Arizona State. With three home runs against ASU, Elliott exploded for a 1.875 slugging percentage and registered a .625 on-base percentage against the Sun Devils. Elliott led the way by tying the school's single-game record with three home runs for three RBI in Sunday's finale against the Sun Devils. Elliott joins two others in Utah softball history who have hit three home runs in a single game: Lyndsey Trevis versus Massachusetts on Mar. 10, 2001 and Niki Hayhurst against Colorado State on Apr. 1, 2001.
Sweet's Power Surge: Utah junior second baseman Jackie Sweet (Corona, Calif.) clubbed two home runs last weekend against the Sun Devils for two RBI. Sweet knocked a 1-2 delivery over the center field fence for Utah's lone score of Friday's contest. She then swatted a 2-2 delivery for a two-run homer to left field to spark Utah's three-run first inning during Sunday's series finale.
Nielson Knockouts: Utah senior right-hander Generra Nielson (Blanding, Utah) leads the Pac-12 in strikeouts with 268 this season, which is 30 ahead of California's Jolene Henderson for league-high honors. Nielson also leads the league with 45 appearances in the circle. Nielson stands second in the conference with 66 struck out looking, third with 215.1 innings pitched, tied for fourth with 19 wins Nielson has 466 strikeouts during her two-year Utah career and now needs just three more strikeouts to tie Meghan Dyer (2006-07) for fourth place on school's all-time strikeout list.
