SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team grabbed its fifth-straight victory as the Utes bested BYU 4-3 in the Deseret First Dual at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Ute senior Sarah Pham, ranked No. 111 in the nation, stayed undefeated on the season by tallying a win out of the second spot as the Utes improved to 5-1 on the season.
"In this rivalry, you can throw out the win and loss record over the last few years," said Utah head coach Mat Iandolo. "It is always an intense, hard-fought battle. I am proud of our team for beating BYU the last five times we've played. The rivalry is in our favor. We feel really good about this win."
The Utes quickly put themselves in the lead as they swept doubles play. Tereza Bekerova and Paige Miles teamed up for a win over Jones and N. Tran out of the first spot, 8-3.
Sarah Richter and Luisa da Rosa collected the victory out of the second doubles spot over Sheehan-Dizon and Miclat (8-3), while Pham and Callie Craig defeated Anderson and Maddox at No. 3 (7-6).
The Utes carried their success into singles play as Pham collected her sixth-straight victory at No. 2 singles with a win over Sheehan-Dizon (7-6, 6-3).
