SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's tennis is 44th in the ITA's first Division I Women's Tennis rankings of the year. The Utes improved 14 spots from their No. 58 start in last season's initial poll.
Senior Tereza Bekerova claims 100th in the singles rankings and is expected to lead Utah at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions.
"I'm please to be inside the top 45 in the country, but I firmly believe we can move higher this season," said Utah head coach Mat Iandolo. "It's a great tribute to our program that we've spent most of last eight years in the rankings. Our goal now is to consistently be in the top 25."
Eight additional Pac-12 Conference teams join Utah in the top 75 with four placing in the top 10. Stanford is recognized as the top team in the country with UCLA and USC close behind in a tie for fifth. Cal is No. 8 followed by Arizona State (26), Washington (45), Oregon (71) and Arizona (73).
The Utes ended 2013-14 with a 12-9 overall record and a 3-7 conference clip. The team recorded five wins against ranked opponents and were ranked as low as 27th (Mar. 21) during the season.
Utah begins its 2015 campaign at the Miami Hidden Duals tournament in Miami, Fla., Friday through Sunday.
