UTAH vs. DELAWARE STATE Post Game Quotes
Utah 105, Delaware State 58
Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the take away from the game…
We set some goals. We wanted to have ten or less turnovers. That was one of the things on the board. We managed to have nine. We were hopeful of holding them to 30%. They hit a couple of those threes at the end which probably was slightly over the 30%. The other thing we talked about, being the Christmas season, is keeping the theme we have had for the last week since the Wichita State. That our program is, one of the core parts of it is that we are taking we shots, not me shots. We only had one shot, in my opinion, that was what we consider, we number them in the five's, are what we are looking for and its a no brainer. We only had one shot that I can remember that was not a five. Right in the spirit of Christmas with the giving stuff. The majority of our fields goals, 30-37, were assisted. I think that is the same number we had for Savannah. That's the way we need to play and we are not going to do it individually. It was positive. We switched up some defenses and worked on some things. Now we are ready for Christmas break. I think everybody is charged and ready to enjoy some family time.
On Jakob Poeltl's passing in the first half…
Yeah, if he plays a normal game, there is a really good chance he ends up with double digit assists. Also passed a couple, the guys got fouled on Gabe's fragrant foul. That was a pass that Jakob made. That guy is kind of the epitome of wanting to share it. We saw them double him, even triple him right on air time before he even caught it. He is fine with making the pass. We said that up to this point in the season, if we establish the inside, its going to make things a heck a lot better for everybody else. The guys have being a good job and getting the ball in there. Jakob is obviously doing a nice job with his passing.
On Gabe Bealer's good stretch in the first half…
Well, I mean we maybe extended a little bit defensively. We looked to really push the tempo on offense and thats what my challenge to our guys was. This is one of those games potentially where you are a little let down after the Duke, guys are already thinking about Christmas, I didn't want to disrespect the game and come out with the five guys that started making it one of this slug fests where no body feels good heading into Christmas. They hit their first couple shots which is kind of been the case of all our games recently. But we did a nice job. We defended. We got out and pushed. Guys got tired and it was kind of obvious, okay, lets now get two or three more guys in there. I think that is important team wise. As I said, the nature of our team is to do it collectively. When we can get everyone sweaty and needing to take a shower, that is a good sign.
On having to talk to the team not having to let down after Duke…
I didn't have to. That was one of the last things I said is lets make sure we respect the game. That to me it's respect for the game and trying to play the right way. That incapsulates a little bit the idea of not having a let down. Shame on us, when you have 30 some games to play, if you come out and you are not where you need to be, thats not what we are about. I thought we did a pretty good job reacting and responding to that.
Junior Forward Chris Reyes
On the game…
I thought it was a great game, I mean, especially for us guys coming off the bench. Our starters actually started off really well for us and got that good, big lead and got to give us an opportunity.
On 30 assists for the team…
Coach has been on us about team play, so having 30 assists you usually don't see that from us but thankfully going into Christmas break hopefully this carries on to when we come back for College of Idaho.
Freshman Forward Austin Montgomery
On team chemistry…
We get to practice with one another and it's just not always the same guys. You get to know each other's strengths and weaknesses and when you know that you are able to make sure each other is in the right spots so we can do our best.
On 12 three-pointers made…
I think it reflects upon how open those threes were that we were able to move the ball around, get into the paint, and once we sucked them in we were able to get those wide open shots.
