SALT LAKE CITY -- The series finale between the No. 22 Utah Utes and No. 20 Washington Huskies Saturday afternoon at Dumke Family Softball Stadium has been cancelled due to rain.
Showers that moved into the area overnight continued throughout the morning and the majority of the showers will remain throughout the rest of the day.
The game, originally scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. on Saturday, will not be made up and the Utes will finish the regular season with an overall record of 34-17 and 12-11 in Pac-12 Play.
Without a chance to play on Saturday, the Utes will finish the regular season fourth in the conference standings behind Oregon (20-3), UCLA (19-4) and Arizona (13-11). All three teams in front of Utah still have one more game to play on Saturday, but no matter how those games turn out, the Utes cannot move up or down in the standings.
Despite not having a chance to finish in third-place, the Utes still have a lot to celebrate on Saturday. The 34 regular season wins are the most since Utah recorded 35 victories during the regular season in the 2006, while the 12-11 record in the Pac-12 gives the program its most victories and first winning record in league play since joining the conference back in 2012.
The Utes, who entered the week ranked No. 26 in the RPI standings, will now wait to hear from the NCAA for an at-large bid into the 2015 NCAA Tournament. The 64-team field will be announced Sunday night in a selection show that will air live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. MDT.
