Utah moves to 4-0 with a 62-20 win at Oregon. Utah is now 9-20 all-time against Oregon. This is Utah's first 4-0 start since 2010. The Utes are now 5-11 in Autzen Stadium and 15-22 in league games as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. This is Utah's first victory in a Pac-12 opener since joining the conference in 2011.
This was the most points scored by Utah in a Pac-12 game as a member of the conference. This was the fifth time Utah has scored 40 or more points in a Pac-12 game since joining the league in 2011 and the most points for the Utes since a 70-7 win over Weber State in 2013.
After punting on its first series, Utah scored on five straight drives to jump out to a 27-13 halftime lead. Utah has scored 42 second-quarter points this season. The Utes then scored on their first four series of the second half and would score 42 unanswered to lead by as many as 49 (62-13). Utah has scored first in all four games this season.
Utah held a 3-0 edge in turnover margin over the Ducks and has 11 takeaways this season (seven interceptions and four fumble recoveries). The Utah defense stopped Oregon on the first three drives of the game and the Utes limited the Ducks to 18 rushing yards in the second half.
Utah started 0-for-3 on third-down conversions before going converting their next five third-down attempts. The Utes ended the game 6-of-13 on third down.
Senior quarterback Travis Wilson made his third start of the season (30th career).He is 2-1 as the starter (18-12 career). Wilson was 18-of-30 passing (60%) for 227 yards and he set a season high with four touchdowns. This was his 13th 200-yard passing game. Wilson also ran six times for 100 yards (career-long of 60) with a 2-yard touchdown run for his second career 100-yard rushing game.
Eight different Utes caught passes. Senior wide receiver Kenneth Scott caught his first touchdown pass of the season and the eighth rushing touchdown of his career. He had a team-high 75 receiving yards on six receptions. True freshman tight end Caleb Repp caught two touchdown passes, which were the first two touchdowns of his career (6, 19). Freshman Britain Covey made his first career touchdown reception in the second quarter (28 yards), which was his second career touchdown (77-yard punt return last week at Fresno State). He ended with three catches for 55 yards.
Safety Marcus Williams had his third interception of the season followed by a 52-yard return. Junior cornerback Dominique Hatfield came up with his second career interception. Jason Fanaika and Jared Norris both forced fumbles.
Senior running back Devontae Booker had 98 rushing yards (22 carries). Booker is 13th in school history with 1,955 career rushing yards and his 398 career carries has him 12th. He led Utah with 123 all-purpose yards, which included a 25-yard touchdown catch. He has three career receiving touchdowns (1 this season) and 17 overall. Booker also threw a halfback pass for a touchdown to Covey in the third quarter to put Utah ahead 41-13.
Tom Hackett averaged 60.3 yards per punt on three punts (181 yards). He had a career-long 76-yard punt in the first quarter, the seventh-longest punt in school history and he now has two of the top 10 performances in school history. He had three inside the 20 (84 career). He also had a 33-yard rush on a fake punt in the third quarter.
Sophomore Boobie Hobbs returned a punt 69 yards for his first career score. Junior Cory Butler-Byrd played on both sides of the ball. He played his first snap as a wide receiver in the first quarter and appeared as a cornerback in the second quarter.
Andy Phillips went 2-for-2 in field goals with makes from 44 and 28 yards. He is now 5-for-7 this season and 45-of-55 for his career. He was 8-for-8 on PAT attempts and is now 105-of-106 for his career.
