SAN FRANCISCO - Led by first-team selections Garett Bolles, Hunter Dimick and Mitch Wishnowsky, 12 Utah football players—including five defensive linemen—were named to the 2016 All-Pac-12 Conference team.
In his first NCAA season, junior offensive lineman Bolles has started every game at left tackle and has played 891 snaps. He is second on the team with 11 cuts. Senior defensive lineman Dimick leads the Pac-12 and ranks third nationally in sacks (14.5) and tackles for loss (20.5). He was honorable mention All-Pac-12 as a sophomore before missing half of his junior season with an injury.
Wishnowsky, a sophomore in his first season at Utah, gives the Utes a first-team All-Pac-12 punter for the fourth-straight year, following in the footsteps of three-time honoree Tom Hackett. Also like Hackett, who was the 2014 and 2015 Ray Guy Award winner, Wishnowsky is a Ray Guy Award finalist. He will attend the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 8 in Atlanta.
Wishnowsky leads the nation in punts of 50+ yards (28), punts inside the 20-yard line (34, tie) and punts inside the 10-yard line (17). Wishnowsky, who is averaging 48.0 yards per punt, has led the nation in punt average every week but two and currently ranks second.
Named to the 2016 All-Pac-12 second team were senior offensive lineman Isaac Asiata, junior defensive back Marcus Williams and senior place kicker Andy Phillips. Asiata, a four-year starter who made the honorable mention team in 2015, leads Utah in cuts (13) and ranks second among the offensive linemen in total plays (928). Williams, first-team all-conference a year ago, ranks second in the league in interceptions (4, tied) and interceptions per game (0.40) despite missing two games. Phillips is fourth in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (81.0), field goals per game (1.42) and total field goals (17). He is a four-time All-Pac-12 selection, including a first-team nod in 2014.
Utes earning honorable mention recognition were sophomore defensive back Chase Hansen, junior defensive lineman Lowell Lotulelei, junior defensive lineman Filipo Mokofisi, senior defensive tackle Pasoni Tasini, senior defensive end Pita Taumoepenu and senior running back Joe Williams. Lotulelei was a first-team selection last year while Mokofisi, Tasini, Taumoepenu, and Joe Williams join Bolles and Wishnowsky as first-time selections.
The 12 All-Pac-12 Utes ranks second behind Utah's 13 selections in 2012.
The All-Pac-12 teams are selected by the league's 12 head coaches.
