LOS ANGELES - Utah sophomore Jakob Poeltl has been named a finalist for the 2016 John R. Wooden Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Saturday.
Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, Poeltl is one of 15 student-athletes who are candidates for the Wooden Award All-American Team and one shall receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the most outstanding college basketball player in the nation.
Poeltl, who is also a finalist for both the Oscar Robertson and Naismith National Player of the Year awards, ranks first in the Pac-12 and fourth in the nation in field goal percentage (.667). He ranks among the top-50 players in the nation with 13 double-doubles, 196 total field goals made and 269 total rebounds.
Voting will take place from March 14th to March 21st, and voters, consisting of nearly 1,000 members of the national college basketball media, take into consideration a player's entire season of play, as well as opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
