SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team fell 75-59 to the No. 4/5-ranked Iowa State Cyclones inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center Tuesday night. Â
Â
Utah (10-18, 2-13 Big 12) benefited from the hot hand of
Terrence Brown in the opening minutes of the contest, taking an 8-6 advantage on a reverse layup from the junior guard at 15:27.Â
Â
Brown continued to find success on the offensive end as the half progressed, leading all players with 13 points (6-of-9 FG) at the break.Â
Â
Down 12-10 with 13:44 remaining in the half, Iowa State (24-4, 11-4 Big 12) found its groove and unleashed a 12-0 run to take a 22-12 lead over the Runnin' Utes with 10:01 left before halftime.
Â
As the clock ticked toward the half, Utah continued to fight—bringing the game within one possession (29-27) thanks to an 8-0 scoring run that was capped by a Brown three-pointer with 4:53 remaining. Despite Utah's strong run, ISU set the tone during the final minutes of the frame and took a 41-31 lead into the break.Â
Â
Early in the second half, Utah brought the game within 45-40 on a high-flying dunk from
Keanu Dawes at 16:51.
Â
From there, ISU immediately responded with an 8-0 scoring run of their own, taking a 53-40 advantage with 13:22 left play. The Cyclones' scoring run came during a nearly nine-minute stretch without a field goal for Utah—a drought that finally ended with a Dawes three at 7:37 to make it 62-49.Â
Â
Utah continued to fight as the period progressed, but despite its efforts, Iowa State held on to its double-digit advantage and ultimately finished the contest with a win by a margin of 75-59.Â
