Utah Women's Tennis Prepares for Pac-12 Championships
Utes enter Pac-12 Tournament with 3-7 conference record.
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's tennis team heads to Ojai, Calif., this week for the 2016 Pac-12 Championships Wed. Apr. 20-Sun. Apr. 24. The Utes are currently ranked No. 51 in the nation and await the draws to be announced by Pac-12.
The Utes hold a 13-10 overall record this season under head coach Mat Iandolo.
"We are very excited to be headed to the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif., and be a part of one of the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournaments in the nation," Iandolo said.
THINGS TO KNOW
The Pac-12's 11 women's teams are seeded based on win-loss percentages during regular-season and conference play.
Thirty-two players have been selected with three players from each of the top-10 teams and two from the 11th ranked team for the singles draw. For the doubles draw, one doubles team will represent each school along with five others selected by the draw committee.
The first two rounds will be played at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club and the semifinal and final rounds at Libbey Park.

The women's singles championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on Sunday at Libbey Park and it will be followed by the doubles championship at 1 p.m. PT. These two matches will be broadcast live by Pac-12 Network, pac-12.com/now, and the Pac-12 Now app.

UTAH NOTES
-Sophomore Alexia Petrovic earned a 12-5 singles record over the course of the season.
-Freshmen Brianna Turley holds an 11-8 singles record.
-Together sophomore Margo Pletcher and Turley hold a 14-5 record, and are currently the No. 87 ranked doubles team in the nation.
UTES HEADING TO OJAI ON HIGH NOTE
The Utes finished the regular season with wins over Colorado and No. 41 Oregon. The Utes upset the Ducks 4-3 in Eugene, Ore., to propel their national ranking from No. 59 to No. 49. Pletcher outlasted Nia Rose in a three set match 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to clinch the match for the Utes.
Utah then closed the season with a 4-1 victory over Colorado ending the season with a victory. Wins in this match came for Pletcher and Turley and Calton and Da Rosa at the doubles spots; followed by victories at the singles spots for senior Sarah Richter, sophomore Jena Cheng, and Turley.
2015 PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Last year Jena Cheng, Sarah Richter, and Tereza Bekerova represented the Utes in the singles draw. Cheng was bested in the first round by No. 1 seeded Giuliana Olmos of USC 6-0, 6-3. Richter was defeated by California's No. 4 seeded Klara Fabikova and eventual runner up in the tournament. Bekerova made it to the quarter finals where she fell to eventual Pac-12 champion Catherine Harrison 6-0, 6-0 of UCLA.
Utah's doubles team consisted of Bekerova and Pletcher, where they fell in the quarter finals 8-5 to Klara Fabikova and Zsofi Susanyi of Cal.
