SALT LAKE CITY – Tonight, Utah Softball will learn if it earned an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Softball Tournament, as the 64-team field will be revealed, beginning at 8 p.m. MT. The selection show will air live on ESPNU.
The Utes went 32-19 overall and finished fourth in the Pac-12 Conference with a record of 13-10, their most wins since joining in 2012. Utah is receiving votes in the both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and NFCA/USA Today Polls and checked in at No. 30 in the most recent RPI standings.
Utah just defeated No. 3 Oregon this past weekend in Eugene and is seeking a 14th NCAA Tournament berth, as well as consecutive trips for the first time since 1994-95. Utah has an all-time record of 18-29 in NCAA postseason play, including a 17-23 record in Regional Tournaments.
There will be 32 NCAA participants receiving automatic bids on Sunday, with the remaining 32 teams earning at-large bids into the tournament. The top 16-seeded teams in the tournament will host regional tournaments, which are set to get underway this Thursday, May 19.
The regional tournaments feature four teams competing in a double-elimination bracket, with the winner of each regional advancing to Super Regionals, where the best-of-three series determines the eight teams that advance to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Women's College World Series.
