AUSTIN, Texas - Utah softball student-athlete Hannah Flippen has been selected to the Academic All-America First Team this afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Flippen, a junior with a 3.68 GPA in Human Development and Family Studies, becomes Utah Softball's first member to be selected for First Team honors.
Two former softball student-athletes were tabbed as second team Academic All-Americans, Kathleen Thornley in 1983 and Ali Andrus-Saga in 1997
Flippen, the 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year, was also a 2015 Pac-12 All-Academic selection. She joins Taryn Wicijowski (WBB) and Georgia Dabritz (GYM) as Utes that have earned First Team Academic All-America selections over the last two years.
The University of Utah has had 55 student-athletes receive a total of 69 Academic All-America honors since 1964. A Ute has been named to an Academic All-America team every year since 2008.
