SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Softball junior Anissa Urtez was named to the Mexican Women's National Team this past weekend.
After a try out in Cerritos, Calif., Urtez was selected to represent Mexico at the USA World Cup, July 4-9, in Oklahoma City and the ISF Women's World Championships, July 15-25, in Vancouver. Urtez's Utah teammate, Hannah Flippen will also be in OKC as a member of the USA Softball Elite Team.
Urtez, a two-time All Pac-12 honoree, was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week earlier this season. She paced the conference with 16 doubles and her 70 hits were the sixth -most of any player.
In Pac-12 play, Urtez had 22 runs batted in, also good for sixth overall. A Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selection last year, she led the conference this season with 142 fielding assists and helped turn 20 double plays. Â Â
