SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis program was named as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team and four individuals were recognized as All-Academic Scholar Athletes, the ITA announced on Friday.Â

The team combined for a cumulative 3.53 GPA during the 2015-16 academic year.

Sarah Richter and freshman
Brianna Turley were each named ITA Scholar Athletes. All four Utes who were recognized had grade point averages of 3.7 or higher.

Pac-12 Conference schools Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington (4) and Washington State (3) were also named ITA All-Academic Teams. Only USC (5), Stanford (4) and Washington (4) had as many or more student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar Athletes than Utah.
In order to earn ITA Scholar Athlete status, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of 3.5 or better for the current academic year and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All varsity letterwinners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
