Utah vs. San Jose State Postgame Notes

Utah is 20-1 in non-conference games since joining the Pac-12 in 2011. The lone loss was in overtime at Utah State in 2012.

Utah holds a 7-1 series lead over San Jose State, including a 5-0 mark in San Jose. Whittingham is 3-0 against the Spartans.

Utah scored 17 points off San Jose State turnovers.

Utah's defense held San Jose State to just 56 yards rushing (32 carries).

Utah had 10 sacks on defense, which is tied for the second-most all-time in a game at Utah. Utah also had 10 sacks against UTEP (1983) and UCLA (2014). Hunter Dimick and Filipo Mokofisi each had two sacks to lead the Utes. Dimick, who has 3.0 sacks and 4.0 TFL this season, has 18 career sacks (tied for sixth-most all-time at Utah) and 28 career tackles for loss (tied for 10^th-most all-time at Utah).

Troy Williams had his second 200-yard passing game of the season, throwing for 257 yards (20-of-28) with one touchdown (one INT). Williams had two pass plays of 40+ yards (54 yards to Tim Patrick and 45 yards to Cory Butler-Byrd) to bring his season total to five 40+ pass plays. Also at quarterback was Tyler Huntley, who played in his second career game after entering in the fourth quarter.

Tim Patrick had his second 100-yard receiving game this season with a career-high 121 yards receiving on six catches. He had his team-leading fourth touchdown catch of the season on a four-yard reception at the end of the second quarter.

Cory Butler-Byrd returned to the field for the Utes and had five catches for 66 yards, including a 45-yard reception.

Three running backs scored touchdowns – Zack Moss, Armand Shyne and Troy McCormick. Moss and McCormick made their first career starts. Moss (95 yards, 12 carries) led Utah in rushing yards with a career high and scored with a 10-yard run. Moss also had Utah's longest rush of the season for 51 yards. Shyne (12 carries, 92 yards), who also had a career-high rushing yards, scored on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter while McCormick (seven carries, 61 yards) scored on a 16-yard rush in the second quarter, his second touchdown of the year.

Reggie Porter had his second interception in as many weeks in the second quarter. He has two picks this year and in his career.

Marcus Williams made his second interception of the season in the fourth quarter. He has eight career picks.

Sunia Tauteoli led Utah with a career-high eight tackles.

Pita Taumoepenu forced a fumble in the fourth quarter on a sack, his second forced fumble of the season.

Andy Phillips went 2-for-2 in field goals with two first-quarter field goals (37 and 23 yards). He has made four-straight field goals. Phillips kicked four PATs to break the school records for PATs made (141) and attempts (142).

Mitch Wishnowski had five punts for 246 yards for a 49.2 average. He had two punts of 50+ yards to bring his season total to nine.

In addition to Zack Moss and Troy McCormick, others who made their first career starts was Jackson Barton and Pasoni Tasini.
