Fort Myers, Fla.-- University of Utah women's tennis concluded the final day at the FGCU Invitational, going 3-1 in doubles competition against St. John's and 3-5 in singles against FGCU.
The Utes started the day with three solid doubles victories.
Brianna Turley and
Margo Pletcher defeated Jessica Livianu and Anna Morozova while
Taylor Calton and
Jena Cheng defeated Stephanie Elegegren and Jaide Collins, both by a score of 6-4. Whitney Turley and
Alexia Petrovic pulled out a hard-fought victory over Irina Preotescu and Olaya Inclan, 7-6 (7-4).
The Utes then faced tough competition in FGCU in singles competition. Petrovic recorded a dominant victory over Bridget Foster, 6-0, 6-3. Gerstner Da Rosa added a two-set victory over Julianna Curtis, 6-4, 6-4 while Calton came back from behind for a victory over Laura Falceto Font, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Utes continue their spring season with matches at Fresno State on February 4. They will have their first home matches of the season on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. against New Mexico and Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. against Wisconsin.
