SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis program excelled through the second day of competition at the ITA Regionals, highlighted with two doubles wins to get the day started.

Margo Pletcher and
Brianna Turley scored an 8-3 win over Utah State, advancing to play against Northern Arizona tomorrow morning. The team of
Whitney Turley and
Leah Heimuli also came away victorious in their doubles match, beating Pac-12 foe Colorado, 8-6.

Whitney Turley also had a breakthrough today in singles. I am looking forward to watching her and her sister compete in the main draw singles tomorrow and top seeded doubles tandem of Margo and Brianna as well as Leah and Whitney."

In singles play, W. Turley picked up big wins over Chiara Tomasetti of Northern Arizona (6-4, 6-3) and then advanced to take on Meredith Jones of Air Force, taking her down in two sets (6-0, 6-3). She is set to play No. 83-ranked Aiwen Zhu of UNLV tomorrow.

Her sister, B. Turley, also advanced today with two wins, recording a victory of Hannah Jonesof Utah State 2-1 (5-7, 6-1, 6-1) and Huibre-Mare Botes of Idaho State (6-4, 6-4).
Alexia Petrovic picked up a win in her first match of the day against Elizabeth Barnickel of Air Force in two sets (6-2, 6-1), but fell to En-Pei Huang of UNLV in the next round (6-4, 5-7, 6-3).

Victoria Robertson took on Kate Cusick of BYU, but fell in two sets (6-2, 6-2). Pletcher competed in the singles draw today as well after a first round BYE yesterday, beating Meredith Laskey of Air Force 6-2, 6-1, but then was unable to overcome Ghita Nassik of Southern Utah, falling in two (6-3, 6-2).
