SALT LAKE CITY – The tandem of
Leah Heimuli and
Whitney Turley advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw at the ITA Regionals, highlighting a rollercoaster day for the Utah women's tennis team.

The team of
Margo Pletcher and Brinna Turley fell in their first match against Northern Arizona (8-2), but Heimuli and
Whitney Turley rebounded for the Utes, winning two matches in a row.

They took down Idaho 8-4, followed by a dominant 8-3 performance over BYU to advance to the semis. They will take on a team from Denver tomorrow in hopes of advancing to the final round. Â

The Utes struggled in singles play today, with Whitney and
Brianna Turley failing to advance to the semifinal round.

Whitney Turley played against a top-100 player in Aiwen Zhu of UNLV, but was unable to overcome defeat, falling in two sets (6-2, 6-3). Her older sister also fell in two sets (7-5, 6-2) to Bianca Mok of Denver.
"I am very pleased with Leah and Whitney doing this well in their first major doubles event for us," head coach
Mat Iandolo said. "I am really interested to see how tomorrow goes."Â

Whitney Turley and Heimuli get underway in doubles play at 9 a.m. MT at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. Â
