SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah ski team travels to Colorado this weekend for the RMISA Championships, a meet that also doubles as the NCAA West Regional meet. The alpine events will be held at Beaver Creek Resort with the Nordic events at Maloit Park.
The meet kicks off on Friday, Feb. 24 with the men's and women's giant slalom. Saturday sees both disciplines in action with the men's and women's slalom in alpine and the women's 5-km and men's 10-km classical events in Nordic. The Nordic teams continue on Sunday, March 11, with the women's 15-km and men's 20-km freestyle races.
The Utes have won the last two meets, the Seawolf Invitational and UAA Invitational after finishing third in the first two meets, the Utah Invitational and Montana State Invitational.
The men's alpine team is led by
Sam Dupratt, who has three victories, four podium finishes and five top five finishes, all in the giant slalom.
Endre Bjertness has two podium finishes in the slalom along with eight total top 10 finishes.
Dominic Demschar has finished in the top 10 twice with four finishes in the top 15, all in the giant slalom.
Joergen Brath has six top 15 finishes on the year and
Martin Grasic has four top 15 runs.
Ty Sprock's best finish of the year is 15th in the slalom at the UAA Invite while
Sasha Zaitsoff's season-best run was 12th in the slalom at the Seawolf Invite.
Women's alpine has been a consistent team for the Utes with
Chloe Fausa,
Roni Remme and
Julie Mohagen all with multiple top five finishes on the year. Fausa has a win and two fourth place finishes in the giant slalom. Remme has a giant slalom win, two podiums and five total top five finishes. Mohagen has three podiums and five top five finishes.
Sabine Krautgasser recently had her season-best finishes of fifth and seventh in the slalom races in Alaska.
Abby Ghent has two top 10 and four top 15 finishes on the year.
Lauren Samuels has three top 15 finishes.
In women's Nordic,
Merete Myrseth has two victories, both in the freestyle races in Alaska, and has finished in the top five in all five races she has competed this year.
Guro Jordheim has four podium finishes this year including three podium finishes in Alaska.
Leah Lange recently had a season-best 11th-place finish in the freestyle sprint at the Seawolf Invitational and has six top-20 finishes this year.
Natalia Müller has a season-best fourth-place finish in the 10-km freestyle at the Utah Invite with three top 15 finishes and
Josefin Nilsson has three top 20 finishes.
On the men's side,
Kevin Bolger has two victories and six podium finishes.
Martin Bergström has two podiums with five top five finishes.
Martin Mikkelsen has finished in the top 10 in all six of his races. Behind the trio of Bolger, Bergström and Mikkelsen, the Utah men have consistently been one of the top scoring teams in each race this year.
Logan Diekmann (fourth) and
Jacob Engström (seventh) each had their best career finishes in the sprint freestyle at the Seawolf Invitational.
Oscar Ivars has four top-15 finishes this season.
Other strong performances in Nordic include a team second-place finish in the 4x5-km mixed classic relay at the Seawolf Invitational behind Bergström, Jordheim, Bolger and Myrseth, while the team of Mikkelsen, Müller, Engström and Lange finished seventh.
