SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Nordic teams take their turn in Alaska this week with their portion of the UAA and Seawolf Invitationals, held Feb. 7-8 and Feb. 11-12 in Girdwood, Alaska.
The week begins with the freestyle sprints for the UAA Invite on Feb. 7, followed by a 4x5-km mixed classical relay event on Feb. 8. The Seawolf Invite begins on Feb. 11 with the women's 5-km and men's 10-km classic, with the freestyle events on Feb. 12 with the women's 15-km and men's 20-km events.
The Utes are second overall in the Seawolf Invitational with 311 points behind Montana State (333 points) following the alpine portion of the meet. Utah is also second at the UAA Invite with 318 points, trailing Denver by a point (319).
Kevin Bolger has led the men's Nordic team in RMISA competition this season with podium finishes in all four races.
Martin Bergström and
Martin Mikkelsen each have a pair of top 10 finishes while
Jacob Engström has three top 15 finishes.
Oscar Ivars has one top 10 finish this year plus a top-15 run while
Logan Diekmann has two finishes in the top 20.
For the women,
Guro Jordheim has three top 10 finishes as well as a podium finish.
Merete Myrseth has two top-five finishes in both races she has competed.
Natalia Müller has a top-five finish while
Josefin Nilsson has a top-15 placement.
Leah Lange has three top-20 finishes while
Anna-Lena Heynen has also competed for the Utes.
Since the last Nordic RMISA competition on Jan. 15, the Utes have kept busy competing in additional races. Several Utes finished strong in an Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) race in New Hampshire, with Jordheim, Bergström and Myrseth all winning races along with several racers earning top five finishes. Diekmann competed at the recent FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championship, finishing 23rd in the men's sprint qualifier.
