Tucson, Ariz.--Â Utah Women's tennis clinched its first Pac-12 Conference victory of the season when the Utes defeated Arizona, 4-3.
The Utes started the match strong by clinching the doubles point when
Taylor Calton and
Jena Cheng pulled out a 6-4 win over Devin Chypyha and Camila Wesbrooks and
Alexia Petrovic and
Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa recorded a dominant 6-0 victory over Marie Van Aelst and Maggie Cohen.
In singles competition,
Whitney Turley secured a crucial victory over Marie Van Aelst, 6-4, 6-2 to tie the match at 2-2 in the No. 6 spot. After the Wildcats regained the lead with a victory in the No. 5 spot,
Brianna Turley again tied the match when she came back from a first set loss to record a win over Samantha Czarniak, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Cheng secured the dual-match win with her close three-set victory over Devin Chypyha, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (4-7), 6-2.
"This was a huge bounce back win in a very tough place to play," head Coach
Mat Iandolo said. "Any Pac-12 win is a great win! We were led by the Turley sisters and
Jena Cheng--what heart they showed on the road!"

The Utes return home to host North Carolina State at the Eccles Tennis Center on Mar. 13 at 5 p.m. They will face Houston on Mar. 23 at 1:30 followed by Washington on Mar. 24 at 1:30 and for their first home match of the conference schedule. They also host Washington State at 11 a.m. and Weber State at 4 p.m. for a double-header on Mar. 26.
