SAN ANTONIO - Behind a strong performance on the mound from
Riley Ottesen and
Dallas Carroll at the plate, the Utah baseball team defeated UTSA, 7-1, to close out the three-game series with the Roadrunners.

The Utes (7-3) took control with four runs in the second inning and added runs in the seventh and eighth innings. UTSA scored its lone run of the game in the fifth inning.

Ottesen threw 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts for his second win of the year.
Dylan Drachler threw the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit with a strikeout.

Utah was led at the plate by a 4-for-4 performance from Carroll, driving in three runs.
Chandler Anderson was 2-for-5 with two RBI while
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., hit two doubles.

A one-out walk to
Conner McNally started things off for the Utes in the second.
Oliver Dunn followed with an infield single and after a strikeout,
Kyle Hoffman walked to load the bases. Keirsey was hit by a pitch to send home the first run, and Anderson drove in a run with an infield single with another run scoring on a throwing error on the play. Carroll also singled to send home a run before Anderson was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

UTSA left two runners on base in the fourth before breaking through in the fifth after a pair of one-out hits led to a run on a ground out.

The Utes added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth. In the seventh, Keirsey led off the seventh inning with a double and Anderson reached on a fielders choice to put runners at the corners. An infield single off the bat of Carroll gave the Utes a run. In the eighth the Utes had two quick outs before another double Keirsey again led to a rally. Anderson followed with a double of his own to score Keirsey and Carroll followed with an RBI single up the middle to give Utah a 7-1 lead.

UTSA left runners on in each of the last three innings but couldn't cut into the Utes lead.

Utah comes home for the first time this season with a three-game series against New Mexico State, beginning Friday, March 10, at 3:00 p.m. MT.
