COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Utah skier and four-time Olympian Torin Koos will represent the University of Utah as the United States Olympic Committee will honor the Pac-12 Conference and its member institutions during the 2017 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas.
Set for Friday, March 10, the conference tribute is the first of its kind and part of an organizational initiative to enhance broad-based Olympic sport programs at the collegiate level. As part of the celebration, Koos will be recognized during the 8:30 p.m. semifinal session of the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament. He will also be available on the concourse to meet fans from 6:30-7:00 p.m. during the first semifinal game.
Koos, who won six U.S. sprint titles, competed in four Olympics (2002, '06, '10, '14). He was a three-time All-America skier at Utah. He finished seventh in the classic at the 2001 NCAA Championships while placing fourth in the classic race in 2002 with a sixth-place run in the freestyle race. He also ran track and cross country for the Utes. Koos graduated from Utah in 2004 with a degree in communications.
Koos is currently working with the International Olympic Committee Athlete Career Program, which helps athletes manage the transition from sport into a new career. He has also worked in journalism for several publications, including USA Today.
At Rio 2016, Pac-12 athletes competed in 23 sports for 47 countries, including 113 athletes who represented Team USA – nearly double the delegation from any other NCAA conference. The Utes had seven former student-athletes compete at the Rio games, representing five different countries.
