SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah ski team travels to the NCAA Championships this week, hosted by New Hampshire in Franconia and Jackson, from March 8-11.
Utah is one of seven schools fielding a full team of 12 skiers (three per gender per dicipline), joining Alaska Anchorage, Colorado, Dartmouth, Denver, New Mexico and Vermont. Of the 12 skiers representing Utah at NCAA's, two skiers are returning NCAA Champions -
Endre Bjertness in the men's giant slalom and
Julie Mohagen in the women's slalom - while seven skiers have previously earned All-America honors. Five skiers are making their first appearance at the championship.
The Utes won two of the five RMISA meets this season, the Seawolf Invitational and UAA Invitational. Utah won the RMISA regular-season championship after scoring the most points during the season. In addition, Utah's Nordic team competed in four EISA races this season, coming away with three victories.
Utah has finished among the top three teams at NCAA's five of the last six seasons. The Utes have placed third the last two seasons and put together a string of three-straight second-place finishes from 2011-13. The Utes have won 11 national titles (10 NCAA, 1 AIAW) in their history, and the 10 NCAA titles ranks third all-time behind Denver (23) and Colorado (19). Utah has 72 individual national champions, which also ranks third all-time.
The NCAA Championships will be held March 8-11. The alpine events will be run at Cannon Mountain with the Nordic events at the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. The meet kicks off with the men's and women's giant slalom races beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8. The Nordic teams begin on Thursday, March 9, with the women's 5-km and men's 10-km classical races beginning at 10 a.m. The men's and women's slalom races go off on Friday, March 10, with the meet closing with the men's 20-km and women's 15-km freestyle races on Saturday, March 11.

Women's Nordic
Newcomers
Merete Myrseth and
Guro Jordheim have both been strong for the Utes this season, earning first-team All-RMISA honors. Myrseth has three wins, which is tied for the most in the conference. Jordheim has four podium finishes on the year with eight top 10 finishes.
Natalia Müller earned All-America honors last year in the freestyle at the NCAA Championships last year. She has one top five and two top 10 finishes this season.
Men's Nordic
Kevin Bolger has stepped up his senior season with his best career finishes. The 2017 U.S. national champion in the sprint classic, he has two wins and six podium finishes this year and was RMISA MVP and first-team All-RMISA. Last year he was an All-American in the classic race. Newcomers
Martin Bergström and
Martin Mikkelsen make their first appearances. Bergström had four podium finishes during the season and was first-team All-RMISA. Mikkelsen was a second-team All-RMISA selection. He had six top 10 finishes during the year.
Women's Alpine
Roni Remme,
Julie Mohagen and
Chloe Fausa are all returning All-Americans for the Utes. Remme, who has two wins and three podium finishes this year, earned All-America honors in the giant slalom at NCAA's last year. Mohagen is the reigning NCAA slalom champion. She has three podium finishes and five top five finishes. Fausa is a three-time All-American in the giant slalom and has one win this year. Remme and Mohagen were both first-team All-RMISA while Fausa was named to the second team.
Men's Alpine
Sam Dupratt has three victories in the giant slalom this year with four total podiums. A former member of the U.S. Ski Team in his first year at Utah, he was first-team All-RMISA.
Endre Bjertness is a three-time All-American and the defending giant slalom national champion. He has three podium finishes and five top five finishes this year and earned second-team All-RMISA honors.
Joergen Brath, a 2014 All-American in the giant slalom, is making his fourth appearance at NCAA's. He recently had a career-best fourth-place finish in the giant slalom at the RMISA Championships.
